DIA'S STORY CLOTH LESSON
Dia's Story Cloth is a non-fiction tale of the Hmong People's journey as refugees told through the use of a story cloth created by the author's aunt and uncle. The students create this project during the Year 4 unit on Children's Rights.
CRYPTOGRAPHY LESSON
During a unit on tolerance and World War II, I taught Year 5 classes about the rarely discussed heroes of wartime encryption. After watching a documentary on Bletchley Park, the British code breaking center, students were introduced to basic types of encryption, including the Caesar Cipher disk. Students put together their own disks and used them to create and break codes.
BULLETIN BOARDS
A few of my past bulletin board themes include
-an interactive fill-in-the-book-title activity
-the Thankfulness Tree which is made of leaves created by all students stating items they are thankful for
-a calendar for School Library Month where each day is associated with a one day national or international celebration and a connecting book
DISPLAYS
Some of my displays include
-clouds created by Reception students depicting real life objects
-the Library Word of the Week which teaches students different library related terms
-Skoob the Library Shelf Elf who moves around the library while keeping his eyes out for good library manners
-A word wall for fiction and non-fiction genres
